Robert Bowie, Jr. and
Professor Michael Millemann
“Teaching the Practice of Law through the Dramatic Arts:
The Case of Michael Austin”
Please join us in welcoming the Early Action admitted students and
their families to the Annual Holiday Luncheon on
Friday, December 28th at 11:30 a.m. at the
Engineering Society of Baltimore, 11 West Mt. Vernon Place
We are excited to have Club Member, Robert Bowie, Jr., and Professor Michael Millemann as our speakers this year. Mr. Bowie and Professor Millemann will talk about an unconventional course at the Carey-University of Maryland School of Law which taught legal ethics and the practice of law through the dramatic arts. In the course, the students were required to write a play and perform it in front of the law school using the facts and ethical failures from an “Innocence Project” case. Each play was about a prisoner who had been convicted and incarcerated although he was later determined to be completely innocent, subsequently exonerated by the State and released. One such case was the case of Michael Austin. Mr. Bowie and Professor Millemann will describe the case, the teaching method and the impact of the class.
