The Harvard-Radcliffe Club of Maryland cordially invites all alumni and their guests to its Annual Spring Forum. Our speaker will be Dr. Donna Hicks, Associate at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard, where she is the Chair of the Herbert C. Kelman Seminar on International Conflict.

An expert on international conflict resolution, Dr. Hicks earned her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Wisconsin. Her most recent book, and the topic of her talk, is Dignity: The Essential Role It Plays in Resolving Conflict. The desire for dignity is universal and powerful. It is a motivating force behind all human interaction - in families, in communities, in the business world, and in relationships at the international level. When dignity is violated, the response is likely to involve aggression, even violence, hatred, and vengeance. On the other hand, when people treat one another with dignity, they become more connected and are able to create more meaningful relationships. In this important book, Dr. Hicks examines the reasons for this gap and offers a new set of strategies for becoming aware of dignity's vital role in our lives.

Dr. Hicks has 20 years of experience as a facilitator in international conflicts in the Middle East, Sri Lanka, Columbia, Cuba and Northern Ireland. Her unique focus on dignity, and the essential role it plays in resolving conflict, has transformed work environments for the world’s most prominent companies, non-profits, and governmental agencies. We are thrilled that she will now be sharing her insight and experience with us. Please join us for what promises to be an exciting event!

Copies of Dr. Hicks’ books will be available for purchase at the luncheon.
